In her series, Vibrant Matter, Toronto born artist Renée Lemieux explores her connection to and love for Canadian wilderness. During the spring and summer months she lives and works as a tree-planter, on the West Coast of Canada. Over the years, the experience of living outdoors and within the elements has become an amazing, vital source of inspiration for the artist. Amid her nomadic lifestyle, Renée switches between illustration, mixed-media and oil-painting, depending on weather she is situated in a tent, or in her studio. In her series, Vibrant Matter, Renée reflects on past experiences in the wilderness -memories that are vibrant and ephemeral. Her painting practice expands on sketchbook drawings, photos and memories, which results in a variety of styles – both graphic and gestural.
